After a whirlwind two weeks of volleyball play, it was a welcome reprieve to only have one match this past week for the W.R. Myers Rebels varsity girls volleyball team.
It involved a straight-set victory (25-20, 25-21, 25-21) over Kate Andrews Pride last week in Southern Alberta High School Girls Volleyball League competition.
“After so many matches with tournaments and league, it was nice just to have the one game,” said Dee Schramm with a chuckle, head coach of the W.R. Myers Rebels varsity girls volleyball team.
“We needed to regroup physically and mentally.”
The Rebels again have a one-match week this week, but it should be a dandy as W.R. Myers hosts Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clippers today with junior varsity at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow for Fan Appreciation Night.
So far both matches between the two squads have been ultra competitive.
“We are 1-1 in matches we’ve played so far. It will be a good battle with some good volleyball, I’m looking forward to it,” said Schramm.
“We are pretty even. It will be a matter of who shows up to play. We played them in their tournament and we only lost 23-25, 25-27 and playing them in pre-season, the first set we beat them pretty good, second set was really close and the third set was 15-12 I believe. It’s going to be a matter of who shows up to play some volleyball, but I believe both teams will be showing up and showcasing some really good volleyball.”
