St. Mary’s hosting run

Posted on June 4, 2014 by Taber Times

To help kick off the initial St. Mary’s School Run for the House event later this month, organizers could not have thought of a better cause.

“We’ve been wanting to do a cross-country run of some sort and this year, one of our teachers spent two months at Ronald McDonald House (in Calgary) and so we decided we wanted to do something for that charity so it seemed like a good fit,” said Carolyn Siemens, a coach with the cross country program at St. Mary’s School.

That fit has included a growing cross country program at the school, where a couple of extra students every year seem to join the program, according to Siemens.

The Run for the House on June 21 is open to both St. Mary’s School and the public alike in its fundraising efforts.

“For our first year to see how it goes, it’s going to start at the school and go up 50th and go up the trail up to Ken McDonald where it’ll go to the end of the park and then we’ll turn back,” said Siemens.

The cost is $30 to register, in which runners will be guaranteed a T-shirt if they register before June 11. Pledge sheets are also available or people can donate online directly to Ronald McDonald House for the run.

“I’ve gone around to most of our classes and it seems like we have about a 50 per cent interest and then of course we want to get the community involved,” said Siemens. “We’ve been putting posters up in different places.”

The run will start at 10 a.m. on June 21 at the school. The registration form can be downloaded off of the St. Mary’s School web site or are available directly at the school. For more information on the Run for the House you can call Carolyn at 403-223-3165.
