“We came out extremely flat and were not able to convert on our shots and as a result fell behind early. We had done this in the two previous games as well but we were able to regroup and rebound back in those games,” said Brandon Bullock, assistant coach for the W.R. Myers Rebels varsity girls basketball team. “We fought against a team that played above their abilities and would be hard pressed to repeat a game like they played. Our next league game on Feb. 14 will be at Kate Andrews and the results will be different.”
The Rebels run in the tournament started off with an opening 79-41 victory over Brooks Composite on Friday evening.
Paige Wood led the Rebels charge with 14 points and five steals. Sam Terry hit for 12 points and Taylor Moser added nine. Nina Gansner helped clog up the paint defensively for the Rebels with six blocks.
Saturday’s noon game featured a 79-49 win over Crescent Heights.
Gansner had a huge double-double in the contest with 16 points while hauling in 24 rebounds to dominate the paint. Megan Jansen had a solid game with 10 points, two rebounds and three blocks. Hayley Lepard added six assists, four steals and three blocks.
