Taber Running Club winding down

Posted on July 16, 2013 by Taber Times

Running, is a popular pastime of many community members and several Taberites of all ages run for fun, as well as for the sport of it. Either way, the Taber Running Club is made up of those who have a passion to run. Recently, members of the Taber Running Club participated in the Southern Alberta Summer Games, which were held in Taber July 3-6.

“The Summer Games I thought were awesome. The organization, the volunteers and everything else was great. We enjoyed it,” said Billie-Jo Ferguson, head coach of the Taber Running Club. “We ended up with four medals.”

According to Ferguson, there were no runs to report this past weekend. The next run scheduled for the club is this week in the Crowsnest Pass.

“We’re running on this Friday in Blairmore. It’s the Sole Survivor Race. I think there’s only going to be about four of us in that one. We’re not going to have a good turn-out. There’s a lot of kids that are gone and some that just don’t want to go that far,” said Ferguson. The Sole Survivor Run will be the last run until Cornfest in Taber, with a few runs scheduled for the fall. Ferguson said the spring is the busiest season for running.

“It’s kind of dying down and it’s certainly heartbreaking because I love the racing part of it,” added Ferguson.

Ferguson will be taking part in the Spartan Race in Calgary in the middle of August, which is an obstacle race and many younger runners in the club will not be able to participate.

“A lot of the kids couldn’t do that because they have to be 15 years old,” said Ferguson. “It’s quite a grueling run.”
