After decades tucked away, the Taber & District Community Adult Learning Association is opening the doors to its brand-new facility and everyone is invited.

On Friday, March 6, visitors are welcome to drop in anytime between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to meet staff, tour the facility and enjoy some snacks.

After residing in the Provincial Building for years, Taber Adult Learning has moved to a new location.

Executive Director Kirsti Forsyth is eager to share the space with the public and hopes the association will get more visibility and recognition.

The move has been in the works for years and is prompted by the need for better visibility, Forsyth explained.

“I just hope for more exposure so that people know of our programs and can refer clients if they need help with accessing services that we are able to offer.”

Taber Adult Learning has been a pillar in this community for more than 50 years, serving job seekers, newcomers and youth, and providing access to English classes, youth employment programs and other resources.

The building was purchased outright by Taber Adult Learning with financial assistance from the Government of Alberta through the Community Facilities Enhancement Program. The grant of $400,000 was used toward part of the purchase and renovations of the building.

Additional funding came through $150,000 loans from both the Town of Taber and the MD of Taber, as well as a $100,000 grant from the MD of Taber, which were applied toward renovations, Forsyth explained.

“It kind of all came together and we were able to purchase the building and then get the renovations completed.”

She added that the move was also a necessity for more dedicated space.

“We were kind of outgrowing the space at the Provincial Building…This provides us with much more functional space to deliver our programs.”

The new location features permanent classrooms for different services, such as the Youth Employment Program.

Community members are encouraged to visit the Open House downtown (5324 48 Avenue) on March 6 between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Taber Adult Learning also offers programs and upcoming opportunities, including Youth Employment Program intake and a job fair on March 12, providing practical help and resources for those who need it most.
