The MD of Taber is proud to invest in new recreational projects and upgrades to existing facilities, thereby promoting the health, well-being, and connection of residents in its community.
“Our investments in recreation over 2025 and 2026 are about more than buildings and programs—they’re about people,” says Reeve Miyanaga. “By supporting recreation and culture across the district, we are creating opportunities for residents of all ages to stay active, connect with one another, and build a strong sense of belonging. These investments help ensure that whether you live rurally, in a town, village, or hamlet, you have access to safe, inclusive spaces that strengthen our community, support healthy lifestyles, and the long-term growth of the Municipal District of Taber.”
Many of the supported projects have benefited from significant funding provided by the Government of Alberta, enhancing the impact the local and provincial collaboration.
Here is a look the projects across 2025, and 2026:
2025 Projects
• $100,000 — Taber and District Community Adult Learning Association to purchase and renovate a new facility.
• $100,000 — Trail 77 Singletrack Association for trail construction to complete the Master Plan Capital Project.
• $200,000 — Vauxhall Academy of Baseball for the construction of an indoor training facility.
2026 Projects
• Up to $180,000 — Vauxhall Agricultural Society for Vauxhall rodeo grounds arena building facility construction and improvements.
• $700,000 — Town of Vauxhall for the arena and curling club floor slab replacement.
Alongside capital investments, the MD of Taber offers annual recreation operating grants to towns, villages, and hamlet recreation boards across the district. Recreation, active living, and sport are vital to the physical, social, and emotional well-being of residents, so to prioritize these services, the MD of Taber has implemented a structured funding framework under its Operational Grants for Recreation Boards, Towns, and Villages policy. Under this framework, in 2025, the MD of Taber allocated $357,081 to neighbouring towns and villages, and $144,707 to hamlets.
“Recreation plays a vital role in building strong, healthy communities,” concludes Reeve Miyanaga. “Through Council’s collective commitment to investing in recreational facilities and programs across the Municipal District of Taber, we are supporting the physical, social, and emotional well-being of our residents. These investments help ensure our communities remain vibrant, welcoming places to live, work, and raise families, both now and into the future.”
