The Taber Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints held their annual outdoor Live Nativity program at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building on December 21 and 22, 2025.

Tami Torrie of the Taber Alberta Stake, who has been involved with the event since it began, stated that the shows were held at 6 p.m., 6:30, 7, and 7:30 p.m. with each show lasting 15 minutes, followed by hot chocolate and squares inside of the church that provided patrons an opportunity to warm up and visit. All shows were free to attend.

“We are excited to celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ with our community in Taber and the surrounding area,” said Torrie. “It has always been a community event and a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas with each other.”

Torrie also said that the area’s Live Nativity has been ongoing since 1978 by a Latter-Day Saint congregation in Grassy Lake and was held there annually until 2011, when it was moved to Taber. The event, Torrie stated, is organized yearly by a Nativity organization committee within the Church that oversees the Nativity and all that it entails. This year, Torrie said, the committee was led by Troy Hansen of Barnwell; and many youth served as actors in the production, including costuming, stage setup, seating arrangements, lighting, and sound. Parking, advertising and refreshments were provided by many other adults within the congregation.

“The Nativity is supported by the local congregations in Taber, Barnwell, and Coaldale,” said Torrie. “The Nativity is something we look forward to every year. It is a lot of work and organization to pull it off but so rewarding.”

Ken Pitcher, President of the Taber Alberta Stake, emphasizes that the Taber Alberta Stake is grateful for all the support the community provides for the event each year.

“We feel it helps keep us all more focused on what Christmas is all about,” said Pitcher. “It is always worth it as we see youth and adults don shepherd, wise men, and angel costumes with smiles on their faces and excitement in their eyes that they have the opportunity to share the message of Jesus Christ’s birth with our Taber community.”
