The MD of Taber is actively updating rural addresses in the Hays Block, due to the addresses becoming non-compliant.

Bryce Surina, Director of Community Services for the MD of Taber, explains, “The federal NG9-1-1 project introduces new national standards for addressing. The Hays Block is unique because it doesn’t follow Alberta’s Township Grid System. Historically, addresses were assigned using a local system that worked well for the area. This readdressing ensures compliance with NG9-1-1 standards and makes it easier for emergency services and other agencies to use accurate address information.”

The multi-step process involves the MD updating internal systems including Emergency Services, taxation databases, and sending letters of notice to property owners.

“Rural address signs (blue signs) will be replaced in December, January, and February,” Surina confirms. “Public updates are being shared on MD social media channels. The transition is expected to be complete by early March 2026.”

If you live in the Hays Block, please contact the MD of Taber if you have not yet received a letter of notice. Also, be sure to update your address with service providers to avoid disruptions.

“Most agencies confirm addresses during renewals, so keeping your information current is important,” adds Surina.
