The annual BMO Farm Family Awards provide recognition from BMO bank and the Calgary Stampede to local farmers who excel. Nominee criteria include showcasing family farm values and how this lifestyle enhances the community and industry. The recognition also helps promote urban-rural relationships across Southern Alberta.
The 2025 BMO Farm Family Award was presented to the Holst family.
Todd Holst explains that he has lived in this area for all of his 53 years. The Holst farm is mixed grain with, “cows, calves, and seed we grow for wholesale.”
When he learned of the win, Todd said he felt, “excited and honoured. That was cool!”
“There is great opportunity here,” says Todd when asked about what he would say to other farmers looking to settle in the region. “Land is a bit more reasonable than other places. Our area is unique; we are contour farmers. Our fields don’t have square corners.”
Murray Reynolds, Chair of the Agricultural Service Board and Councillor of the Municipal District of Taber, says, “Agriculture is at the heart of who we are in the MD of Taber, and the BMO Farm Family Awards honour the families who embody that spirit every day. We’re proud to celebrate the Holst Family for their outstanding contributions to farming and community life — their success reflects the dedication and resilience that make our municipality thrive.”
