On Thursday, September 25 students and staff from ACE Place Learning Centre came together at the Trout Pond for their annual Terry Fox Run, celebrating a month of fundraising and a powerful commitment to cancer research.
Throughout September, students at ACE Place worked hard to collect donations from their own earnings, family, and community members through pledge sheets. Their dedication paid off—together, they raised an impressive $745, surpassing their $500 goal.
Adding extra excitement to the campaign, three staff members pledged to make bold, and very visible, sacrifices if students could reach the target. Teacher Dawson Strate promised to shave his iconic beard, intern teacher Levi Friesen offered to shave his head, and educational assistant Pat Horvath agreed to dye his hair and beard hot pink. The students’ enthusiasm and determination ensured all three would have to follow through with their promises.
The event highlighted not only the students’ generosity and community spirit but also the extraordinary support of staff who went above and beyond to encourage participation. Both groups deserve praise for showing what teamwork and commitment can accomplish in pursuit of such an important cause.
The Terry Fox Run itself carries deep meaning across Canada. In 1980, Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope with a dream of a world without cancer. Forty-five years later, that dream continues to inspire millions. The Terry Fox Foundation reminds us: If we work together, we can make such a difference in the lives of so many. Crossing the finish line means hope for everyone with cancer. Together, we can Finish It.
ACE Place’s 2025 Terry Fox Run was not just about fundraising; it was about hope, perseverance, and honouring Terry’s legacy. Thanks to the efforts of students, staff, and the wider community, ACE Place once again proved that small acts of commitment can add up to a meaningful impact.
