Economic Development Manager Amy Allred spoke to town council on May 26, giving them an update on the Taber 120 anniversary celebration and Canada Day events on June 30 and July 1.
On June 30, Taber will host its 120th anniversary event with a free concert in Confederation Park. Kalsey Kulyk, Aaron Goodvin, and headliners The Washboard Union will perform. The Town has contracted Spider Entertainment to work in partnership with it for the event.
Local businesses have committed $60,000 in sponsorships. The two presenting sponsors – Fortis Alberta and Power Fuelz – are joined by VHL Construction, Lantic, College Ford, Western Tractor, Real Estate Centre, Lamb Weston, McCain’s and Tim Hortons as funding partners.
Fortis Alberta is hosting a Free Family BBQ that day and will provide the supplies and volunteers, while PepsiCo has donated 4,000 bags of chips to hand out. Several non-alcoholic beverage trucks will be stationed nearby.
The Town and 98.1 The Ranch radio station have partnered to advertise and promote the event on the radio, and the station will be live on location and MCing the event. A contracted videographer will capture the sights and sounds of Taber for a 120th celebration video that will be shown between concert sets.
Cluesolvers Downtown Mystery is a live, 25-clue mystery that leads sleuths through downtown with the option to stop at various businesses without affecting their scores. The Town will provide 300 free vouchers for the game in an effort to drive foot traffic downtown.
On Canada Day (July 1) expanded camping options will be available in an effort to accomodate guests of the 120th or Canada Day celebrations who wish to come early or remain in town to enjoy the Summer Games.
