U.S. officials confirmed Thursday that escaped murderer and fugitive Sharon Kinne had been living under an assumed name in Taber for decades prior to her death in 2022 at age 81.

Authorities say Kinne, who had been linked with three murders in the U.S. and Mexico in the 1960s, was living in Taber under the name Diedra (Dee) Glabus.

According to officials with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Missouri, they began the investigation into Glabus’ true identity based on an anonymous tip they received in December 2023 from someone in Alberta.

Kinne disappeared in 1969 after a prison break in Mexico, and may have resurfaced in Taber as early as 1973 according to an obituary for her late husband, Jim Glabus.

Look for a full story on Kinne in the upcoming Feb. 5 edition of The Taber Times.
