The Taber Food Bank is set to receive the Spirit of Taber Award at the Taber and District Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner and Awards on Friday, January 17th at the Heritage Inn in Taber.
Naomi Wiebe, Manager of the Taber Food Bank, says the Taber and District Chamber of Commerce opens nominations in the community in four categories: Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Spirit of Taber, and Customer Service Excellence.
“According to the letter we received regarding the Spirit of Taber award, we were chosen for our unwavering dedication to supporting those in need in our community,” said Wiebe. “We are happy to be recognized for the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers to assist those in our community that are struggling with food insecurity. It helps us to raise awareness of our cause, and that not everyone in our community is able to have their needs met on a consistent basis.”
Receiving the award truly helps Wiebe and the Taber Food Bank feel ‘hopeful’ about the road ahead.
“Food bank usage across the country has risen drastically over the past few years, but awareness is also spreading,” said Wiebe. “We are so lucky to live in a community that supports our cause and the work we do, whether by giving of their time, providing a financial donation, or giving us a food donation, if it is one non-perishable can or a pallet of fresh produce.”
