During a recent M.D. of Taber Council meeting, Council reviewed a Request for Decision to accept the Transportation Master Plan.
“Deputy Reeve DeGroot said the plan is now complete,” said Corey Greene, Director of Municipal Operations for the M.D. of Taber. “It’s been signed by the consultant and their engineers.”
The plan, Greene explained, does include a five-year and 10-year upgrade plan that has been proposed and it also states that before the M.D. of Taber does any work on the roads, they should do additional research on traffic counts because some of the traffic counts done through the study were found to be inaccurate.
“What the consultant is thinking is whether they were taken during harvest or seeding or busy seasons, so they feel that some of the traffic counts that were provided to them were inaccurate,” said Greene. “They want us to confirm that with our own traffic counts before doing upgrades on their list.”
Greene emphasized that this action would provide the M.D. of Taber with the tools to come up with their own list, which they will do in 2025.
“We will start traffic counts and start planning our own list and taking their five and 10-year lists into consideration,” said Greene.
Following a brief discussion for clarifications, Councillor Hildebrand made a motion that the M.D. of Taber receive the Transportation Master Plan as presented and direct Administration in consultation with Council to consider said plan for implementation within available budget capacity. The motion was carried.
