Erlier this month, W.R. Myers High School in Taber hosted their annual Academic Awards Night and during that event, the Beverley Emek Endowment Fund was announced.
Adam Hughes, Principal of W.R. Myers High School, says that the Beverley Emek Endowment Fund was established by Mel and Raeghn Torrie in honor of their favorite teacher, Beverly Emek.
“We are profoundly grateful for Bev and her unwavering commitment to teaching, which has inspired so many,” said WR Myers principal Adam Hughes. “Additionally, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mel and Raeghan Torrie for their extraordinary generosity, which makes this initiative possible. Their support will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the future of many students.”
The fund, Hughes says, will be invested with the interest used to award the Beverley Emek Scholarship annually to a graduating W.R. Myers High School student pursuing post-secondary education.
The very first recipient of the Beverley Emek Scholarship, Hughes said, was announced during the event on September 9th and that recipient was Vickie Dueck.
Hughes states that those who are able and willing to donate to the Beverley Emek Scholarship can do so at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc32V6Dsx5ncXuWPGOarfn9GTaPJhiUXkAnJ0qrCu9kLt0yJg/viewform. All donations made by December 15, 2024 will be matched by the Mel Torrie Family, Hughes says.
“I can say with absolute certainty that this fund will transform the lives of countless students over time,” said Hughes.
