Albertans should expect to see a focus on parental rights legislation in the upcoming fall session of the legislature, which is set to open on Oct. 28 for a five week sitting.
“The Premier’s been clear that she is going to be bringing forward the parental rights bill, and so you’ll certainly be seeing that will be addressing the issues that she’s talked about in the past, which are what rights do adults have, what rights the kids have, and so she will be addressing those issues in legislation this fall,” said Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter.
Some 13 bills received royal assent following the spring 2024 session, including Bill 20, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, which had elicited significant concern and opposition amongst municipalities.
“It’s a short session, and so there’s a couple of small ones I see,” continued Hunter. “There’s a red tape reduction bill as well coming forward, which has got multiple things in there.”
“But really the big thing, the big focus, is going to be the parental rights bill.”
