The following briefs are from the minutes of the Barnwell council meeting on Sept. 10.

A public meeting for Bylaw 05-24 was held to discuss the amendment to the land use Bylaw 01-19. The proposed change to the land use Bylaw would permit solar panels to be used for residential, general, commercial, business park, public, and other districts. Council approved the second and third readings and accepted Bylaw 05-24. The motion to accept it as information was carried.

MPE was a delegation for a capital project discussion. Council was presented with the 2024-25 capital project for upsizing the sanitary infrastructure from an eight inch to a 10 inch main along 4 Ave. and 1 St. Additional options included adding a water upgrade and a sidewalk upgrade. Coun. Hiebert moved that figure two of the infrastructure improvements proposal be used for sewer and water replacement. The motion was carried.

Coun. Hansen moved that council appoint the following individuals to the library board for a three year term: Marsha Johnson, Jane Porter, Marg McCulloch, Jane Johnson, Susan Torrie, Debbie Hansen, Natasha Morgan, and Sarina Tamminga. The motion was carried.

The administrator’s report said that the shop was eligible for full coverage up to the policy amount for needed repairs. In addition, the dead tree behind fire station is to be removed in a couple of months; the pump was repaired and expected to be functional by the end of that week; and the semi parking lot is in disrepair and the Village is working with the Province on it.

Mayor Foster moved that the Village support the submission of a 2024-25 Alberta Community Partnership grant application for a wastewater treatment upgrade feasibility assessment and preliminary design project. The Village is prepared to manage the grant project and related compliance requirements. There is no matching contribution required from the Village. The motion was carried.
