The Town of Taber released its lineup for Canada Day late last week and it should be a hit with kids, families and any other
group looking for fun, food, and games. It starts first thing in the morning and runs all day on July 1, mostly in Confederation Park.
The day kicks off a few hours after sunrise with afree Pancake Breakfast from Spider Entertainment from 8 to 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m. the flag raising will celebrate the good old bright red maple leaf and will be accompanied by cake.
All afternoon and evening, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., food trucks will be onsite to add flavour to your day
in the park. Expect to see The Loft, La Gloria Latin Comfort Food, M&G’s Mexican Food, Frosty Flavor House, and El Taco Loco.
If the day is blazing hot, you can cool off from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the fire truck tours and water fight. For those concerned with water usage, the Town acknowledges, “We may be facing drought conditions in July. We have accounted for the use of the water during this water fight by reducing our irrigation water usage elsewhere, not using the large water hose on the fire truck during the fight this year, and using a large bladder container of water to limit the amount of water used (instead of running
a hydrant/tap for long periods of time). We want to balance responsible water usage with allowing a few hours of fun, and believe our conservation efforts elsewhere make it so we can balance both. We appreciate the public’s understanding.”
From 1 to 5 p.m. you’ll have a chance to have some fun in the park and elsewhere. A petting zoo, bounce house, face painting, and giant park games like chess, checkers, Connect 4 will be open to all. Toonie swim will run at the Aquafun Centre, laser tag will be underway at the small ice arena, and stage entertainment at the Cornfest Stage will run every hour on the hour. It will feature:
1 p.m. Maddy Young Belly Dance
2 p.m. Highland Dance Association
3 p.m. HIBIKIYA Japanese Drumming
4 p.m. TBA
5 p.m. Corazon Salvadoreno Dance Group
Then things quiet down for a few hours before the 10 p.m. Taber Kinsmen Movie in the Park: Trolls 3, and the fireworks show at roughly 10:45 p.m. The Town lists the fireworks time as‘approximate’ due to the timing of sunset. Fireworks are also weather
and wind dependent. They will be viewable from Confederation Park.
The Town is still open to additional vendors. Those interested should contact the Recreation Department or apply using the ‘food truck application’form on the Town’s website. To schedule a fire inspection for your food truck, please contact the Taber Fire Department at 403-223-6010.
