The following are selected briefs from a M.D. of Taber regular council meeting on March 12.
Recognitions
CAO Arlos Crofts introduced Frank Wu as the M.D. of Taber’s new GIS and Asset Management Coordinator. Wu was happy to work at the M.D., and council was happy to have him.
Councillor Brian Hildebrand recognized Lorne Buis, who was the Mayor of Foremost, who recently passed away. “Lorne was a great guy with a big heart who will surely be missed by his family and the residents of Foremost”.
Councillor Murray Reynolds (and ASB Chair) recognized and thanked Maureen VanDerStoel, Jeroen VanDerStoel, Alex Geerligs and Leavitt Howg from GV Ridges Ltd. and VanDerStoel Pollinating Ltd for their generosity and hospitality during the recent tour of their facilities.
RFA Agreement Proposal
Council coated in favour of approving the Regional Fire Authority Intermunicipal Agreement, and to enter into said agreement with the Town of Vauxhall. Agreement’s like the aforementioned are crucial in providing protection and safety to the residents of the M.D. of Taber.
Donation Application Requests
The M.D. of Taber approved a $2000 donation to the Canadian Classic Rodeo Association in response to their application to the Municipal District of Taber Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities Policy.
Also approved was a $2500 donation as a Gold Level Sponsor for the Joint Economic Development Committee’s Taber Table event in response to their application to the Municipal District of Taber Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities Policy.
Council approved a $3500 donation to the Enchant and District Historical Society in response to their application to the Municipal District of Taber Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities Policy.
Council approved a $5000 donation to the Taber Cowboy Poetry & Western Music in response to their application to the Municipal District of Taber Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities Policy.
Council approved a $5000 donation to the Taber Spring Classic Pro Rodeo in response to their application to the Municipal District of Taber Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities Policy.
Council approved a $5000 donation to the Trail 77 Singletrack Association in response to their application to the Municipal District of Taber Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities Policy. Council also invited members or representatives of Trail 77 to attend a future council meeting in order to speak about their additional $5000 request.
Taber Shooting Foundation
Council approved a 10 year renewal of the Taber Shooting Foundation Lease Agreement for municipal lease lands. Deputy Reeve John DeGroot motioned that council direct administration to invite the Taber Shooting Foundation to a future Council meeting to discuss their facility and the future vision of their organization. Council also directed administration to collect information with regard to the Taber Shooting Foundation and how the reclamation funds collected from them are held. Additionally, council would like it to be presented at a future meeting.
