Feb. 27 Meeting Closed Session
The following resolutions were made at the conclusion of in camera (closed session) discussion.
Lease Agreement Renewal – Taber Minor Hockey Association: Following discussion, council voted unanimously to authorize the lease renewal with the Taber Minor Hockey Association for a portion of the facility and equipment known as the Large Ice Arena boards, the south wall, the large ice surface, and the ice resurfacer sides, as specifically detailed in the lease, for a term to expire March 31, 2027 (2026/2027 Ice Season).
Appointment of Deputy Mayor
Coun. Alf Rudd was officially sworn in as deputy mayor by Mayor Andrew Prokop.
Throughout council’s mandate, each member has opportunity to assist with town business in the possible absence of the mayor, or to represent the Town, should the mayor have other commitments.
Historically the order of appointments has been based on the number of votes each councillor received in the municipal election, in order from most to least. Deputy Mayor Carly Firth’s term expired on February 28, 2023.
Rudd will serve eight months in the role until Oct. 31, 2023, when he will be succeeded by Coun. Garth Bekkering.
43 Street Extension
During the Standing Items Council Requests portion of the meeting, Coun. Jack Brewin put forward a motion to direct administration to look into extending the south end of 43 Street to 50 Avenue, including viability and cost, and if it can be completed. The motion was passed by a 5-1 vote, with Mayor Andrew Prokop in opposition.
