Re: Canola or cars? Canada can’t save both

Posted on September 11, 2025 by Taber Times

Just read the opinion “Canola or Cars”. I agree with all Doug Firby wrote except he forgot the most important detail why canola will be shelved and the money given to the automotive industry in Ontario. The votes are in Ontario and if canola was given preference they would probably lose the next election. Alberta, Sask. and Manitoba could win every seat in an election and it would not make a bit of difference.

  1. Fedup Conservative says:

Once again we see the stupidity brought on by these Reformers.
China warned Canada on March 8, 2025 that if we grew canola this year we could expect tariffs to be put on them. Wouldn’t you think Reformers Danielle Smith and Scott Moe would’ve been smart enough to warn the farmers to heed their warnings and cut production by growing something else?
Now Smith and Moe are whining about what the 100% tariffs are doing to their farmers. How stupid do they think we are and what are taxpayers going to lose when they begin handing out money to these farmers that they should have warned.
But what would we expect from Reformers who refused to listen to presidents Obama and Biden who made it crystal clear that they would not approve the Keystone XL Pipeline and Albertans lost $1.3 billion.

Bill when you have fake conservatives, Reformers, running Alberta and Saskatchewan and helping the rich cheat the people out of their oil and corporate tax wealth this is what you can expect.
The true conservatives in my world can’t believe how these ignorant farmers can allow the oil industry to dump their abandoned oil wells on their farmland and not pay to clean them up all thanks to these Reformers and yet they still re-elect them at every election? Where is the intelligence in that?
