Response to storage room ordeal

Letter to the Editor:

I would like to comment on the article in the February 12 Taber Times. Very unfortunate that this woman had such a bad experience but she also does say “it was more than 24 hours.” Likely not much more or she would have said so.

I was also admitted to Lethbridge Regional Hospital (LRH) in March and given a “storage” room area. Truthfully, I was very “thankful” that a spot was available for me. Yes, the bathroom was across the hall but not a great problem. I was very grateful to receive the best care by doctors and nurses, that I could possibly have asked for. After three days I was moved to a maternity overflow room with three other patients. The storage room had been much more private and quiet, yet I was being looked after wherever I was.

   On December21,1997 my father was admitted to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary with a heart problem. He was 85 years old and like other members of our family had spent countless hours volunteering for the Lougheed and Getty Government and had donated around $30,000. to their Party over the years. Lougheed’s energy minister Bill Dickie was a brother in-law of one of my uncles, and we were all proud conservative supporters.
   Because Klein had closed down 1,500 hospital beds, and destroyed 5,000 nursing positions he was forced to accept a spot on a gurney in the hallway next to the emergency room with about a dozen other patients. Some were screaming in pain from injuries from car accidents. It was a complete nightmare with no chance of getting any rest day or night. Yet dozens of rooms remained empty because of the lack of staff Klein had created. There weren’t even curtains separating them. Dad remained there until December 25, when on Christmas day they sent someone home for Christmas and he was given a room and died about 4pm that afternoon.
   When Klein was closing hospitals, and selling them off for pennies on the dollar and blowing up the General Hospital his father Phil said to me. Al what is the matter with that son of mine. While he gives away billions in oil wealth he is forcing us to try to survive without a proper healthcare system, this will cost some people their lives. That’s exactly what it did and the lawsuits proved it.
   I think Ina is lucky she even got a storage room from these Reformers who are trying to create such a mess we will be willing to accept a Privatized Healthcare System like her pal Pierre Poilievre wants to do to all Canadians. Are seniors prepared to pay $800. to $1,000. per month each for healthcare, like my American Relatives, while they watch these Reformers help the rich steal their Oil and Corporate Tax wealth like they are doing? There is absolutely nothing Conservative about them while they deliberately destroy everything our conservative heroes created for us , so why are so many Albertans supporting them?

     Us former Royal Bank Managers know that Albertans have been cheated out of $1.2 Trillion thanks to these reformers starting with Ralph Klein and all the lawyers, accountants, economists, bankers, oilmen and former Conservative MLAs we talk to agree. So are you going to help us put a stop to this Reform Party Insanity or are you going to support Pierre Poilievre and let him create a financial nightmare for you and your children to face? Why do you think so many Conservatives are now supporting a Liberal in Mark Carney to stop Poilievre from destroying us? Like Smith this gut can’t be trusted.

       While Danielle Smith desperately tries to get her pal Reformer Pierre Poilievre elected our lawyer friends warn about what they think their motive is. Poilievre will help her steal our Canada Pension plan, kick out the RCMP at a huge cost to taxpayers, and receive Equalization Payments to her replace some of the billions she is helping the rich steal from the people.
       They also warn that there will be nothing stopping her from canceling the pension for those of us seniors who know we are receiving a lot more than what we ever paid into the plan in the first place, so why would we be dumb enough to elect Poilievre and let it happen? Are you willing to lose your Canada Pension Plan to brag about helping Reformer Poilievre get elected?
