Police forces applauded

Posted on February 18, 2014 by Taber Times

I just returned from RCMP graduation ceremonies in Regina. I was much impressed with several things. One was the quality of the men and women who now hold the title of Constable and are assigned to various posts throughout Canada.

It is not hard to feel gratitude and pride for the values these mostly young people have been taught and had reinforced over and over again throughout their six months of challenging training and again reminded of in all of the exercises of the graduation ceremonies. Integrity, honesty, sacrifice, service, helpfulness, and caring are now an integral part of their enthusiasm as they leave to place their dedicated mark on our great country.

Knowing that the RCMP graduates have, by signed oaths, “faithfully, diligently and impartially” sworn to perform their duties towards all the citizens of Canada according to the values championed by the entire force, give all of us feelings of security and trust as we go about our own day-to-day interactions with others. We all want justice fairly administered. It appears that the training given our respected and honoured RCMP officers will help to ensure it.

I observe that the same RCMP values that guide these officers also reside within our local town police force. I see them practising integrity, honesty, helpfulness, service, and caring as they faithfully serve us. We are doubly blessed to have two forces employed in the safety and security of our communities.

Thank you, police officers, for your devoted and knowledgeable service to all of us.
