Polling stations need improving

Posted on October 30, 2013 by Taber Times

Three years ago when I voted in the last election, I went to the Senior’s Centre, and in less than five minutes, I was finished and on my way out the door. The building was even wheelchair accessible.

On Oct. 21, I went to the recreation centre to cast my ballot. I waited in line to sign a paper and show my driver’s licence that I was eligible; then waited in line again to hand in that paper and again show my identification. Then, I waited in line again to use a ballot booth.

Who decided that bigger was more efficient? And where was the wheelchair accessibility? I wasted valuable time because either there are not enough volunteers, or someone didn’t know what they were doing. Even two voting booths per registration table would have helped.

Do you need volunteers? Most of us read the newspaper, and would gladly offer our time, if asked.

Maybe next election someone will have the smarts to go back to using the Senior’s Centre.

Thank you.
