Dear Editor,
Thank you to everyone who was responsible for this past Remembrance Day service, it was so good! Thank you to Mr. Burns Wood for sharing once again his reflections on the past and why we should always honour this day as one of significance! Possibly, unknown to Mr. Wood and pastor Tyler Vandergaag, the theme of their addresses, faith and love, exuded the meaning of giving one’s life, the ultimate sacrifice so that others may live! As these men and women did so, so too did Jesus Christ, so that we would have the freedom to choose our destiny in life! Mr. Wood quoted from former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, words that we need to keep in mind today, “ I am Canadian, a free Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, free to choose those who govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.”
P.S. Thank you to Catrina Lickiss on a job well done on reading her poem that garnered a third place placement nationally about Remembrance Day!
