Seeking happiness in destructive ways

The sad story about crime analysis in the Taber Times with crime in order to feed drug addiction, and other wants. So sad, all the pain and misery it causes.

My family and I came to this awesome country of Canada 70 years ago. We and most people around us were considered poor, but did not know it. We always had enough to eat. Our social life was around the kitchen table, we were involved in school and church. Radio and newspapers kept us up to date of the local and world news. We followed short courses relating to the occupation we were involved in. So now 70 years later, we see a lot of wealth around us, we have an abundant variety of foods. We have all kinds of recreational toys, homes away from home, social media, not around the table, but our iPhones.

So as a society, we should be much happier with all this stuff at our fingertips. But that does not seem to be the case. We seem to be yearning for something more. Are we seeking for the meaning of life? Or things that make us feel good, trying the mind-altering drugs. On that score, the government is helping you out, to make some of it legal, so that many people get hooked, and become addicted, to only look for higher highs.

That same government has sanctioned the snuffing out of lives, young or old. This has all developed during my generation’s life span. Is that the legacy that I and my generation leave, when we pass on from this earth? Or is it that we did not pay attention to a well known Taber pastor Harry Ruggles, who at a rally at the civic centre said, “If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will heal their land.” It seems that we are hard of hearing.
