Those of us who consider ourselves to be true conservatives are sick and tired of watching our fellow conservatives allowing themselves to be treated like morons. Apparently Grant Hunter has bought into the lies the Reform Party boys have been feeding him, ignoring the fact that they aren’t anything like the conservatives we proudly supported under Lougheed and Getty. Where does he get the idea that this NDP government is an accidental government? Of course it came from Reformers Brian Jean, and Jason Kenney trying to hide the fact that a lot of Alberta Conservatives had seen enough and knew we had to put a stop to what they were doing to us.
Did Hunter enjoy watching our doctors, and nurses being treated like third-class citizens, having their hospitals closed, hospital beds closed, and cutting 5,000 nursing positions, driving out thousands of doctors and nurses, putting people’s lives at risk, like my father’s was? I will never forget the nurses bawling their eyes out in my office when Klein destroyed their careers. I helped nine doctors and at least two dozen nurses relocate out of this province, and not one wanted to go. Is Hunter even aware that we lost 14,783 health care workers, and have had to pay out millions of dollars to try to buy up foreign workers to replace those that were lost?
Then there was the massive education budget cuts costing young teachers their jobs, creating high education fees for parents to pay, and overcrowded class room sizes for teachers to have to deal with.
All the while this was happening lawyers, accountants, bankers, oilmen and former MLAs from the Lougheed and Getty era were telling us that none of this would have been necessary if Klein hadn’t slashed royalties and taxes to benefit his rich friends, which is obvious when you look at the wealth Norway and Alaska has acquired during the same period. Don Getty told me in 2003 that inviting Liberal Ralph Klein into the conservative party was the dumbest thing he had ever done, and I certainly agreed, our family had known Klein in the 1960s.
Wildrose Party was formed to try to put a stop to what Klein was doing to us and I was asked to run as their leader in the 2004 election. I declined and have watched them go from wanting to stop Klein’s destructive policies, to wanting to bring them back.
He claims that he will fix all our problems by cutting billions off government spending. How, by dumping the cost of health care and education onto the backs of the people, like his hero Ralph Klein tried to do with his Third-Way, a private for profit two-tiered health care system, and did with our power industry? Doctors state that it’s just one more way for them to help their rich friends by giving them first priority to our health care system and it will create a nightmare for the rest of us. They know they aren’t going to be able to keep doctors and nurses working in rural Alberta if they can make twice as much money working in the private for profit facilities it will create in the cities, why would they? Are you going to be willing to give up your health care services so you can brag about supporting the UCP, I doubt it.
Kenney claims he will destroy the Carbon Tax that the oil industry created to show the world that they are trying to do something about our pollution to try to open up new markets for our oil and to get the celebrities off our backs. Of course he ignores the fact that it’s been in place in B.C. since 2008 and working well there and as my conservative friends know, it’s not going to cost us anything like what Klein’s deregulation of electricity has done to us, so where is Hunter’s comments about that?
Don’t forget Albertans allowed the Klein, Stelmach and Redford governments to destroy this province over a 25 year period and the NDP can’t fix it in two years. We know it should never have happened in the first place.

I wonder what Hunter thinks now that Brian Jean has abandoned the party, likely knowing the writing is on the wall, people are sick and tired of listening to their lies.
If that wasn’t bad enough Jason Kenney’s big party in Cochrane was a disaster with only 90 people showing up out of a population of 26,000. Want to bet about 80% were our fellow seniors willing to let themselves be treated like morons? That’s what we are seeing the young people aren’t that stupid. But then it’s a well known fact that con-artists target seniors because it’s so easy to do.
