Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns (16-10-6) took two of three games in a busy weekend of South Central Alberta Hockey League competition with Calgary-based teams.
The first game was a 4-2 doubling of CBHA Rangers (10-2-0) at the Taber Arena on Friday night.
Jayden Kostiuk tallied twice and Dallas Bodnar and James Halverson each had singles. Kole Fujita drew three assists.
Logan Leroux was solid in net to earn the win, facing 49 shots on goal.
Saturday’s slate featured a 6-2 loss to CRAA Gold a(12-1-0) t the Taber Arena on Saturday night.
Tanner Turcato and Nakoda Thunderchief scored for the Golden Suns.
Ethan Barrows and Leroux shared goaltending duties, facing a combined 30 shots on goal.
Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns rebounded on the road on Sunday with a 3-2 edging of CRAA Blue (7-5-0).
Bodnar, Kostiuk and Halverson scored for the Suns, with the game winner coming shorthanded by Halverson.
Barrows earned the win in net, facing 37 shots on goal.
Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns are on the road Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 with games against Wheatland Chiefs and Medicine Hat Hounds respectively.
PEEWEE: Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (3-24-2) suffered a 13-1 loss to Bow Valley Timberwolves (25-3-1) in South Central Alberta Hockey League play at the Taber Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Kobe Fujita scored the lone Suns tally with assists from Ty Fraser and Max Davis.
Kahil Wright took the loss in net, facing 54 shots on net. Marek Schlenker came on in relief for 7:17 of ice time, facing two shots.
Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns host Foothills Bisons at the Taber Arena at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 24. The Suns also host Medicine Hat Hounds on Feb. 25 at the Taber Arena at 1 p.m.
BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns (4-24-1) suffered a tight 4-3 loss to Foothills Bisons (20-7-2) in SCAHL play on the road on Saturday, as the Bisons, the top team in the South Division, scored the game winner on the powerplay with 3:31 left in the game.
Dylan Granson tallied twice in the loss and Braeden Sheppard had a single.
Nathan Verloop and Jed Magarrell both had two assists apiece.
Ty Young faced 38 shots on goal for the Golden Suns in the loss.
Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns host Foothills Bisons on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Taber Arena.
