Thankful for firefighters in Waterton

Posted on October 25, 2017 by Taber Times

I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the work on the Kenow Fire.

I was an intern on the Sunny South News several years ago. I spent my summer weekends in Waterton and one of the cabins the fire fighters saved was the Johansen Cabin. It is the first one closest to Cameron Falls on the mountain edge.

The other one is the Palmer Cabin. It is the one across from the tennis courts and across from where the old out door pool was. There were many family gatherings in these two cabins.

The Johansen cabin stored the keys for the row boats chained to a tree on Cameron Lake. We would leave early in the morning, stop and get the keys, go to Cameron Lake and fish all day. In the evening we would go back to the Johansen Cabin, clean the fish and return home.

We were told to leave quickly before the bears came off the mountain smelling the fish guts in the garbage can. I also worked in the kitchen one summer in the Prince of Wales Hotel. I cannot thank those brave men enough for saving Waterton.
