A popular Cornfest attraction is gearing up to handle the bulls.
Cornfest weekend, the Taber Exhibition Association is proud to present the Cornfest Bull-A-Rama.
Bull-A-Rama goes Friday, Aug. 25, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the bucking starting at 7 p.m. at the Taber Agri-Plex.
The bull riding event will be celebrating its third year at Cornfest this year, but has been a popular stop for bull riders for years prior.
“It’s part of the BRC — Bull Riders Canada,” said Travus Valgardson, Taber Agri-Plex facility manager, of the event. “There’s riders from Australia that compete.”
This year, the Taber and District Chamber of Commerce had teamed up with TEA to host the bull riding event. But besides this change, it is business as usual for the bull rides.
The event would consist of about 30 pro-rides, followed by the top six bull riders competing in a second ride afterwards. And of course, there will be some mutton-busting for aspiring bull riders, with Valgardson predicting that they will see at least 20 kids participating.
“Last year, we opened it up, and kids just kept coming from the crowd. We couldn’t say no to any of them coming up, so we gave them all a ride.”
Bull-A-Rama is free to attend, and the draw of bull riding means that if you want a seat, come early.
“(It’s) beyond a full house. There’s people standing in every possible spot left,” said Valgardson. “You’ll have to get there early if you want a seat.”
Of course, with such a popular event, they are always in need of volunteers to help run it.
