As the the 225 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Taber continues to prepare for its 75th birthday next year, it also celebrated its past with a successful training year earlier for the 2015-2016 training year.
Earlier this year, the air cadet squadron handed out its 2016 awards at the M.D. of Taber airport landing area to go along with a formal ceremony.
The following is the list of winners:
1) The Gillespie Family Best Dressed Cadet on Parade Award
Donated by: The Gillespie Family Presented by our Reviewing Officer, Major Craddock.
This award is presented to the cadet displaying top dress and deportment at tonight’s parade as selected by members of the Reviewing Party.
Awarded to: Flight Corporal Carsen Reid
2) The Kinniburgh Top 1st Year Cadet Award
Donated by: The Kinniburgh Family presented by Mr. Shaun Kinniburgh.
This award is presented to a level-one cadet who has made a contribution to the positive morale of the squadron, has actively participated in community service events, participated in extra curricular activities and achieved a minimum attendance report of 80 per cent.
Awarded to: Corporal Coby Dyck
3) The Al Spielman Most Improved Cadet Award
Donated by: Mr. Al Speilman presented by Second Lieutenant Nicolle O’Grady.
This award is presented to a cadet who has contributed to the positive morale of the squadron, has actively participated in squadron and community events and has demonstrated a significant improvement throughout the training year.

4) The O’Grady Family Cadet Choice Award
Donated by: The O’Grady Family presented by Mrs. Carm O’Grady, Miss Taylor O’Grady and Mr. TJ O’Grady.
This award is presented to a cadet who has demonstrated pride, enthusiasm and dedication towards the members of the squadron as chosen based on nominations from all of their fellow cadets.

5) The Hein Family Commanding Officer’s Choice Award
Donated by: The Hein Family presented by Ms. Lila Hein.
This award is presented to a cadet who has made a significant contribution to the positive morale of the squadron, has actively participated in community service events, participated in extra curricular activities, achieved a minimal attendance report of 80 per cent, and has displayed a potential to become an effective leader within the squadron.

6) The Wesley Reid Memorial Trophy for Best All-Around Cadet
Donated by: The Reid Family in memory of Mr. Wesley Reid presented by Major Howard Han, Commanding Officer of 20th Independent Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery.
This award is presented to the best all-around cadet in the squadron. The recipient is among the top in the squadron in providing community service, displays excellent dress, deportment and leadership skills and is a worthy ambassador for the Canadian cadet movement.

7) The Stan Bartman Citizenship Award
Donated by: Mr. Stan Bartman presented by Lt. Jaime Petty, Deputy Commanding Officer.
This award is presented to a cadet who has displayed a high degree of involvement in community service with a service club, community organization, school or church group and/or the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program.

8) The Firth Family Sportsmanship Award

This award is presented to a cadet who has displayed a commitment towards graciousness during competitions of athletics and who has motivated their teammates to perform to the best abilities regardless of outcome.

This award is presented to a cadet who contributes through significant devotion, pride, honour and respect towards the morale of the squadron.

10) The Anderson Family Dress & Deportment Award
Donated by: The Anderson Family in memory of Mr. Robert Anderson presented by Master Warrant Officer Gary Wittebolle, Regimental Sgt Major of 20th Independent Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery.
This award is presented to a cadet who consistently achieves the highest standards in uniform presentation execution of drill as well as positive conduct and understanding of the chain of command.

11. The Taber Pistol Club Marksmanship Award

This award is presented to a cadet who has demonstrated a high proficiency for target shooting utilizing the Daisy 853C Air Rifle.
Awarded to: Flight Corporal Ethan Clark
Flight Sergeant Nathan Christopherson accepted the award in Flight Corporal Ethan Clark’s absence.
12) The Tori Kallio Air Crew Survival Award
Donated by: Mr. Tory Kallio presented by Captain John McDonald, Regimental Command Post Officer of 20th Independent Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery.
This award is presented to a cadet who has demonstrated a high proficiency and understanding of Performance Objective x90 during field training exercises.

13) The Attendance & Participation Award
Donated by: The Squadron Sponsoring Committee presented by Vice Chairperson Ms. Nicole Strugari.
This award is presented to the cadet who has achieved the highest attendance rate for all mandatory and optional events throughout the training year.

14) The Academic Achievement Award

This award is presented to the cadet who has achieved the highest academic marks within the mandatory performance objectives throughout the training year.

15) The Colleen Sharp Outstanding Family Support Award

This award is presented to the members of a cadet family who has demonstrated a high level of involvement and active support for the squadron.

16) The Legion Medal of Excellence
Donated by: The Royal Canadian Legion #20 Branch presented by President Harley Phillips
This award is presented to the cadet who best exemplifies the citizenship aspect of the cadet program.
The recipient must have participated in community service events outside of the squadron, displayed co-operation with peers and subordinates, promoted morale within the squadron and enhanced the image of cadets in the local community.
