Plenty of medal moments for Vipers

As expected, the turnout for the Taber Viper Swim Club’s home meet on Saturday was big at the Taber Aqua-Fun Centre, with 49 swimmers participating.

“We had an awesome turnout. We had all but about 10 kids who made the meet. We had a lot of kids where this was their first-ever swim meet,” said Teri Cook, head coach of the Taber Viper Swim Club. “It was super exciting for them, but super nerve-racking at the same time and they still did awesome.”

Aggregate medal winners included Adison Hutzul who earned gold for eight-and-under girls. Also golden was Darci Wright for 12-and-under girls. Chance Cook earned silver for 13-and-14-year-old boys. Also earning silver medals were Renae Saunders for 15-to-17-year-old girls along with Dana Poole for 18-and-over boys.

The following are a list of top-three finishes among local swimmers:

Jessica Anderson was top swimmer in the 200-metre freestyle event for 11-and-12-year-old girls, clocking in at 2:56.56. She also took thirds in 100-metre IM (1:31.16) and 100-metre fly (1:33.76)

Morgan Bos took top time in 13-and-14-year-old girls 100-metre fly (1:24.42). She was also second in 50-metre fly (37.85) and third in 50-metre freestyle (33.89).

Olivia Bos was top swimmer in 50-metre breaststroke (44.21) for 11-and-12-year-old girls.

For 15-to-17-year-old girls, Jordyn Clarke was second in 400-metre freestyle (6:41.37) and third in 200-metre freestyle (3:13.16).

Chance Cook was top swimmer in the three individual events he entered for 13-and-14-year-old boys which included 100-metre freestyle (1:05.56), 50-metre freestyle (28.56) and 50-metre backstroke (35.48).

Kelsey Garner had a trio of third-place finishes which included 100-metre freestyle (1:17.60), 50-metre breaststroke (47.00) and 100-metre breaststroke (1:45.71).

Competing in seven-and-eight-year-old girls, Adison Hutzul was top swimmer in 50-metre freestyle (48.05), 25-metre backstroke (23.38), and 50-metre backstroke (51.79).

Klemen Kayleigh was second (21.86) for nine-and-10-year-old girls 25-metre backstroke.

Mikayla Kress was second in 25-metre flutterboard (32.33), and third in 25-metre backstroke (30.05) and 50-metre backstroke (1:06.32).

Lauren Pack earned second-place swims in 50-metre backstroke (44.11) and 100-metre freestyle (1:21.01) for 11-and-12-year-old girls.

She also earned third in 50-metre freestyle (36.08).

Eighteen-and-over boys saw Dana Poole clock the top time in 50-metre backstroke (52.00) and 100-metre backstroke (1:59.58). He also earned second place in 50-metre freestyle (43.19) and 100-metre freestyle (1:44.99).

Dylan Saunders earned second in 50-metre backstroke (45.22) for 11-and-12-year-old boys.

Renae Saunders earned first place in 200-metre IM (2:59.77) and 50-metre fly (33.12) for 15-to-17-year-old girls. She also finished in second place in 50-metre backstroke (35.89) and 100-metre fly (1:17.60).

Tayla Silver earned a second-place time 50-metre freestyle (36.03) and a third in 50-metre fly (37.86) for 11-and-12-year-old girls.

Danielle Wright was top swimmer in 200-metre freestyle (2:50.59) for 15-to-17-year-old girls. She also finished in second for 50-metre freestyle (32.87) and 100-metre freestyle (1:13.91).

Darci Wright earned a trio of first-place finishes which included 100-metre freestyle (1:12.52), 50-metre freestyle (32.51) and 50-metre fly (36.21) for 11-and-12-year-old girls. She was also second in 100-metre fly (1:26.25).

“Everyone has been working on their little skills and remembering little tiny things to improve their times,” said Cook.

The Vipers will have this weekend off in preparation for the Southern Alberta Summer Games which run July 6-9 in Lethbridge.
