Media release for August 27, 2015 regarding Cornfest and ECC
Aug 27 –
With the 30th anniversary of Cornfest upon us, the Town of Taber is looking forward to welcoming an estimated 15,000 festival goers into the community over the next few days.
Over the last year, the Town of Taber has been conducting training in Municipal Emergency Management and is prepared in the event of a major emergency.
The Town’s Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) has been activated for the duration of Cornfest weekend, with key members of the ECC attending briefings daily during this event.
The ECC is monitoring any situations that could pose a problem to public safety.
Please be aware of the air quality situation that is currently ongoing in our area, and stay tuned to the Alberta Health Services website (albertahealthservices.ca) for updates.
The Town of Taber is also asking the public to limit use of their cell phones as much as possible during Cornfest, as traditionally during this event the cell towers become overwhelmed in the area with the influx of extra users, causing communications to become challenging.
“With the 30th anniversary of Cornfest, I’m wishing everyone a safe and fun weekend,” said Mayor DeVlieger.
