The Town of Taber was one of the top trending topics of Twitter Tuesday, as the social-media universe had much to say about the town’s Community Standards bylaw.
Tweets were not limited to those with limited audiences, either, as news outlets like The National Post, Huffington Post and the Calgary Herald weighed in on the issue, along with a number of celebrities and politicians.
“So, no production meetings in Taber then,” said TSN’s Gord Miller, while Edmonton MLA Thomas Lukaszuk chimed in with, “It’s a good thing that #ableg is not in Taber… #wink.”
As Taber nearly topped the list of topics trending across the entire country, the notoriety came with a number of Twitter hashtags, such as #TaberTaliban, #boycottTabercorn, #SwearInTaber, #TaberRules and #DumbestByLaw.
Calls to have Kevin Bacon, the star of the movie, “Footloose,” to save Taber were plentiful, as tweet after tweet feared the town will ban dancing as its next step.
One tweeter went as far as to call the town a dic”Taber”ship, as tweets which deemed the bylaw embarrassing and unconstitutional flooded the social media site throughout the day.
