Taber Oil Kings teams are in various stages of the final portion of the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) season.
U11 Tier 3
After advancing over Irvine, Taber was back in action this past weekend as they took on Foremost in the semi-final. Game 1 went on Saturday in Vauxhall, and both teams were locked in. Despite taking a lead into the third period, Foremost would score four goals in the final frame to win 5-4. Vaughn Emelson scored and added two assists, Seth Denny potted a pair of goals, Dreyton Kinniburgh had a goal and an assist, and Ethan Ausmus, Dirk Devries, and McKinley Wiest all had an assist. Avi Rex was in net for the Oil Kings and made 22 saves on 27 shots.
Looking for a big game to extend their season on Sunday, the Oil Kings looked to upset Foremost on home ice. Foremost was all business though, as they skated to a 6-1 win to advance to the final. Jackson Brown had the lone Taber goal while Rex made 25 saves on 31 shots in net.
Foremost now faces off against Raymond in the Tier 3 Blue Championship.
U11 Tier 5
The U11 Tier 5 squad was taking on Bow Island in the semi-final this past weekend. It started in Vauxhall on Saturday, and Taber was unable to contain a strong Rebels offence as they fell 11-3. Joel Visser had two of the Taber goals, and Jovian Beebe had the other. Zayne Cody was in the Taber net as the starter, and he made 14 saves on 25 shots.
Taber needed a big game on Sunday when they travelled to Bow Island. Unfortunately, Bow Island played another stellar game as they skated to a 14-4 win. Mya Braun scored twice, Cooper Feldbusch and Beebe scored, and Visser had an assist. Cody was back in net and made 31 saves on 45 shots.
Bow Island now takes on Redcliff White in the Tier 5 Blue Championship.
U15
After a great first round against Lethbridge White, Taber was back for the semi-final against Lethbridge Red. On Saturday, the two teams met in Vauxhall to kick off the series. In a back-and-forth game, neither side was able to find a win as it ended 6-6. Logan Rabusic scored twice and had an assist, Mitchell Kimoto scored a pair of goals, Wyatt Valgardson and Oliver Turnbull had a goal each, and Blake Untereiner, Luca Nielsen, Bentley Howg, and Ryden Baker all had an assist. Aidyn Arnel-Derksen made 46 saves on 52 shots in the Taber net.
Needing a win to advance, Taber hit the road to Lethbridge on Sunday. Unfortunately, Lethbridge Red would jump out to an early lead and never relent as they won 7-1. Rabusic had the only Taber goal, and Valgardson and Baron Stang had the assists. Arnel-Derksen made 40 stops on 47 shots in net.
Lethbridge Red now faces High Country in the Tier 3 Orange Championship.
U18
After a successful regular season, the U18 Oil Kings were looking to do some damage in the playoffs. Their round one matchup saw them take on Bow Island. The Kings hit the road for Game 1 on Saturday, and they saw a result of a 4-4 tie. Lincoln Wiebe scored two goals and had an assist, Konnor Wiebe and Ethan Volk each had a goal and an assist, and Julian Woordman had an assist. Ty Dorin was between the pipes for Taber and made 46 saves on 50 shots.
Needing a win, the Oil Kings took the series to Vauxhall on Sunday. The teams would trade goals back and forth, but it was Bow Island that was able to carve out a 5-4 win and advance. Volk and Wiebe had a goal and an assist, Tate Nakashima and Skylar Jensen scored, and Woordman and Kellon Schalk notched an assist each. Avery Remfert was the starting netminder and made 56 saves on 60 shots.
Bow Island now faces off against Claresholm in the Tier 3 Silver Championship.
