The Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) is nearing the end of the regular season, and Taber Golden Suns teams are looking to climb up the standings.
U11
For the U11 Suns, it was a one-game weekend as they hosted Okotoks in Vauxhall on Saturday. Big second and third periods saw the Suns win the game 7-0. Heston Honess and Rhett Schooten led the way with a pair of goals and four assists each, Blake Bryan had two goals and three assists, Parker Avison scored, and Bentley Dyck and Madden Nakamura each had an assist. Tove Morgan collected the win with a 23-save shutout.
The regular season wraps up for the U11 Suns next weekend with a pair of home games in Vauxhall. On Saturday, the Suns take on the Bisons at 10:30 a.m. The final game of the regular season comes on Sunday when the Suns play the Olds Grizzlys at 12:45 p.m.
U13
There were two games on tap for the U13 Suns this past weekend as they were at home in Vauxhall for both. On Saturday, the Airdrie Lightning came to town, and the Suns were all business with a 9-1 victory. Lincoln Braun had a hat trick, Burke Williams scored twice and added an assist, and Ben Wojszel scored and had two assists. Jackson Wiest scored and had an assist, Levi Hanf and Holden Emelson had a pair of assists, Ben Souter and Justin Siemens scored, and Mason Emelson, Peyton Honess, and Noah Lindstedt had an assist each. Dylan Volk got the start between the pipes and made 11 saves on 12 shots.
The weekend wrapped up with a game against the Wheatland Warriors. The teams battled, and the game ended tied 5-5. Braun added two more goals to his total, Holden Emelson had two assists, Hanf, Wiest, and Souter had goals, and Levi Van der Hoek, Dane Beckie, Siemens, Williams, and Wojszel all had an assist. Lance Leusink was in net and made 31 saves on 36 shots.
Next weekend sees the end of the regular season for the U13s as they gear up for two final road games. On Saturday, they take on the Olds Grizzlys at 2:15 p.m. And then on Sunday, they head to Medicine Hat to play the West Central Tigers at 1:15 p.m.
U15
The U15s return to the ice this coming weekend for a three-game home stand to wrap up the regular season. Friday’s puck drop goes at 6:45 p.m. against the Okotoks Oilers, while Saturday’s game is at 12:45 p.m. against the Medicine Hat Hounds. The weekend wraps up with a 6 p.m. game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Sunday.
U18
It was a one-game weekend for the U18 Golden Suns as they hosted Wheatland in Vauxhall on Saturday. Taber put plenty of goals on the board as they cruised to a 12-6 win over the Warriors. Nixen Miller scored twice and had two assists, Liam Okell notched four assists, Breton Villemaire and Lincoln Weiss each had two goals and an assist, and Heston Hansen and Foster Weatherhead each had a goal and two assists. Grayson Biegel scored and had an assist, Madix Miller scored twice, Loki Thacker had a pair of assists, Blake Smith scored, and Jasper Sidam, Hunter Simpson, Landon McEwen, and Ryler Kiss all had an assist. Dakota Hurst collected the win in net with 26 saves on 32 shots.
It’s a two-game weekend for the Suns as they host the Lethbridge Hounds on Saturday in Vauxhall at 3:15 p.m. On Sunday, Okotoks comes to town for a 3:15 p.m. puck drop.
