Regular season wraps up for most Oil Kings teams

For all but one Taber team, this past weekend saw the end of the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) regular season schedule.

U11 Tier 3

It was a two-game weekend for the U11 Tier 3 Oil Kings, and it all started on Friday night. In a matchup against Magrath, Taber was unable to catch up as they fell 3-1. Vaughn Emelson had the Taber goal, and Ethan Ausmus drew the assist. Avi Rex was in net and made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Looking to end with a win, Taber took on Irvine on Sunday morning. Despite taking a three-goal lead in the first, Irvine would battle back and take the game 4-3. Dreyton Kinniburgh had both Taber goals, Ausmus had a single, and McKinley Wiest had an assist. Rex was back between the pipes and made 16 saves on 20 shots.

At the end of the regular season, the Tier 3 U11s finished fourth out of six teams with a 6-9-1 record and 13 points.

U11 Tier 5

Only one game was on tap for the U11 Tier 5 team as they took on Redcliff White in Rolling Hills on Saturday. Both teams scored plenty of goals, but it was the visitors who were able to win 12-9. Cooper Feldbusch led the way for Taber with six goals and an assist, Joel Visser had a goal and three assists, Finnley Olson and Mya Braun had a goal, and Jovian Beebe, Kyden Allred, and Rory Nagai all had an assist. Zayne Cody was in net for Taber, and the netminder made 27 saves on 39 shots.

With the regular season over, the U11 Tier 5 Oil Kings notched third place in their division with a 7-7-2 record and 16 points.

U13

The U13s wrapped up the regular season with two games. Saturday was a home game in Rolling Hills against Cardston. Neither team was able to find a game winner as it ended tied 5-5. Chason Sekura scored three goals, Ryden Baker had a goal and an assist, Cage Holcek had a single goal, and Hudson Ilczynski and Tyrion Ewing had an assist each. Rhett Wright was in the net and made 25 saves on 30 shots.

The weekend ended with a Sunday morning game against Raymond on the road. Despite scoring seven goals, it wasn’t enough as Raymond took it 8-7. Holcek scored and added three assists, Cooper Ross had a hat trick, Ewing had two assists, Baker, Sekura, and Nate Antosko all had a goal, and Hudson Ilczynski had notched an assist. Kohen Ilczynski made 38 saves on 46 shots in net.

Taber finished last in Tier 3 Red with a 3-8-5 record and 11 points.

U15

The U15s finished off their regular season with a three-game weekend. Friday’s game against Lethbridge Red didn’t go their way as they fell 11-1. Logan Rabusic had the lone goal while Aidyn Arnel-Derksen made 18 saves on 29 shots in net.

Looking for redemption, the two teams met in Rolling Hills for a rematch on Saturday. It was a much closer game, but Lethbridge was able to take the game 4-3. Mitchell Kimoto, Oliver Turnbull, and Rabusic had the goals, while Benjamin Williamson, Samuel Hathaway, Jaxson Tychsen, and Baron Stang all had an assist. Arnel-Derksen was back between the pipes and made 49 saves on 53 shots.

To wrap up the weekend, Taber was in Vauxhall on Sunday as they played Lethbridge White. Both teams would fill the net, and it would end 9-9. Kimoto and Rabusic each scored four goals, Stang scored and added two assists, Blake Untereiner notched a pair of assists, and Hathaway, Wyatt Valgardson, Luca Nielse, Williamson, Tychsen, and Ryden Baker all had an assist. Arnel-Derksen made 32 saves on 41 shots in the Taber net.

Taber finished fourth out of six teams in their division with a 5-9-2 record and 12 points.

U18

The U18s have their final regular season game coming up on Friday when they take on Kainai in Vauxhall. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
