Taber Times
January is nearly over, and Taber Golden Suns are still hunting for points as the regular season continued this past weekend in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL).
U11
It was an off weekend from AEHL action for the U11 Golden Suns. They were in Edmonton competing in the U11 All-Star Invitational and were able to defeat Comox 5-4 in the final for the gold medal.
The Suns now look to bring that momentum back to the AEHL regular season. On Saturday, they play the Wheatland Warriors as the home team at 10:45 a.m. in Plamondon. Sunday sees the Suns on the road to take on Lethbridge Hurricanes Red at 11 a.m.
U13
It was a one-game weekend for the U13 Suns as they were in Lethbridge taking on the Hurricanes on Sunday.
The Canes would score four straight goals en route to a 6-2 win over Taber. Holden Emelson and Justin Siemens had the Taber goals, while Levi Hanf, Lincoln Braun, and Jackson Wiest all notched an assist. Dylan Volk was in net for Taber and made 39 saves on 45 shots.
The Suns look to finish off January with a win on Saturday on the road against Airdrie at 3 p.m. On Feb. 1, they welcome the East Kootenay Avalanche to Vauxhall with a 1 p.m. puck drop.
U15
Two games came and went for the U15s as they took on a pair of tough opponents. Saturday’s matchup was on the road against the Bow Valley Timberwolves.
The Suns would keep pace with the home team for most of the game, but they were unable to finish with a win as they fell 5-3. Travis Jackson had two goals and an assist, Rudy Wojszel had a goal and an assist, and Ryder Nielsen chipped in with a pair of assists. Drew Tame was between the pipes for Taber and made 38 saves on 43 shots.
The following day saw the Suns take on the Okotoks Oilers, once again as the road team. This one was all Okotoks as they skated to an 8-1 victory on home ice. Jackson had the lone Taber goal. Talen Sarathlal was the starter in net for Taber, and he made 36 saves on 44 shots.
The Suns return to the ice on Saturday when they play as the home team against the Olds Grizzlys at 6:45 p.m. in Brooks.
On Sunday, the team returns to Brooks as the home team to face off against the Wheatland Warriors at 3:45 p.m.
U18
The U18s finished off January with a pair of games this past weekend. Friday was a road game in Medicine Hat as they took on the Hounds.
Taber would find the back of the net consistently over the three periods en route to an 8-2 win. Nixen Miller scored. What trick and netted an assist, Foster Weatherhead scored a pair of goals, Heston Hansen and Ryler Kiss each had a goal and an assist, Raiden Koizumi found the back of the net, and Breton Villemaire, Hunter Simpson, and Chase Stronge all notched an assist. Dakota Hurst collected the win in net with 23 saves on 25 shots.
The following day saw the Suns head to Vauxhall as they took on the NWCAA Bruins. Taber would fall back early and never recover as they lost 6-2. Lincoln Weiss had two assists, Hansen and Miller had the goals, and Stronge and Villemaire had an assist each. Jack Lukacs was in net for Taber and made 37 saves on 43 shots.
Next game for the U18 Suns goes on Feb. 1 when they head out on the road to take on the Red Deer Elks at 4:45 p.m.
