Games come and go for Oil Kings

Another weekend of Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) games has come and gone for Taber Oil Kings teams.

U11 Tier 3

Only one game was on the U11 Tier 3 team’s schedule. On Saturday, they went to Rolling Hills to take on Brooks. Despite an early lead, Taber saw Brooks come roaring back and eventually take the game 8-6. Seth Denny had a hat trick and an assist for Taber, while Vaughn Emelson had a goal and an assist, Lucas Bowman and Dreyton Kinniburgh had a goal each, and Jackson Brown had an assist. Avi Rex made 13 saves on 21 shots in the Taber net.

The Oil Kings look to rebound on Jan. 31 when they are back on the road to face off against Foremost at 12:45 p.m.

U11 Tier 5

Saturday saw the U11 Tier 5 Oil Kings out in Vauxhall as they faced Bow Island. Taber would go up 2-0, but Bow Island would score six unanswered to win the game. Mya Braun and Cooper Feldbusch had the goals, while Levi Spengler notched an assist. Zayne Cody was in net and made 33 saves on 39 shots.

This coming weekend sees two games on tap. On Saturday, it’s a rematch against Bow Island as Taber plays as the road team. On Sunday, they are back on the road to face Duchess.

U13

The U13 Oil Kings were on the ice for one CAHL game this weekend as they were on the road to face Magrath. A four-goal third period sunk the Oil Kings as they lost 6-4. Madden Wright scored a hat trick while Cooper Ross had the other Taber goal. Ryden Baker and Luke Engwer each notched an assist in the loss. Rhett Wright made the start in net and made 24 saves on 30 shots.

The U13s return for CAHL regular season games on Jan. 23 when they rematch against Magrath as the road team at 6 p.m. On Jan. 24, they head to Coaldale to play the Cobras at 2:45 p.m.

U15

The U15 Oil Kings had one game against Kainai that saw plenty of goals. Despite scoring eight goals, Taber was unable to contain the Kainai offence as they fell 14-8. Logan Rabusic scored four and added an assist, Blake Untereiner had a pair of goals, Mitchell Kimoto had a goal and an assist, Jaxson Tychsen scored, and Samuel Hathaway and Wyatt Valgardson each had an assist. Aidyn Arnel-Derksen made 36 saves on 50 shots in the Taber net.

It’s a two-game weekend upcoming for the U15 Oil Kings. On Saturday, they are on the road to face High Country and then on Sunday, they head to Vauxhall to play Lethbridge White at 4:30 p.m.

U18

It was a busy three-game weekend for the U18 Oil Kings. Things started on Friday night when the team hit the road to Kainai. Thanks to a four-goal third period, Taber was able to secure a 6-2 win. Julian Woordman had a pair of goals and an assist, Lincoln Wiebe and Jude Tams each had two goals, and Skylar Jensen, Carter Kerkhoff, Jaxson Badura, Branson Devlieger, and TJ O’Grady all had an assist. Brodyn Sutka made 35 saves on 37 shots in the Taber net.

They returned to the ice on Saturday when they took on Magrath. This time, Taber was unable to generate much offence as they lost 6-0. Ty Dorin got the start in net and made 47 saves on 53 shots.

The final game of the weekend went on Sunday when Taber took on Pincher Creek in Raymond. Taber was able to score goals in all three periods en route to an 8-3 victory. Badura scored a pair of goals and had an assist, Woordman scored and had two assists, Ethan Volk had a pair of goals, Kellon Schalk had a goal and an assist, Wiebe and Kerkhoff scored, and Tate Nakashima notched an assist. Dorin was back between the pipes and made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Next weekend sees the Oil Kings back on the ice for one game. On Saturday, they hit the road to take on Picture Butte.
