No, it is not a spelling mistake. Most of our Communities in Bloom projects this year have had a significant amount to do with trees, in one way or another. We have been working with the Town of Taber to plant more trees in our “green spaces” to develop green infrastructure to help adapt to, and mitigate, the impacts of climate change. The program is designed to encourage continuous improvement in all aspects of our community. Our goal is to not only beautify but to connect more people to nature which contributes to creating healthier communities. CIB has also been active this year in requesting that the Town of Taber consider in their budget a position for a full-time arborist, these trees need someone to care for them properly and to keep them healthy.
Our newest project this year was to light up more coloured trees in our Christmas display this year. In last year’s article we had informed you that the two teal trees in the park were dedicated to the United Nurses of Alberta – Taber branch who made a donation to make this possible. Not only did we want to add more colour to Confederation Park but we also decided to dedicate these trees to various organizations who strive to keep us healthier and happier. With that in mind, we would like to dedicate the following trees to these organizations within our community:
Pink – Breast Cancer Awareness
Green – Logan Boulay Organ Donation
Orange – Eagle Spirit Nest Society
Purple – Safe Haven Women’s Shelter
Teal – United Nurses of Alberta – Taber branch
In July, the Provincial CIB judges descended on Taber and were given a tour of everything that Taber has to offer. In the evening they were hosted to a barbecue at the home of Henk and Janny DeVlieger along with MLA Grant Hunter, Mayor Andrew Prokop, Taber MD Reeve Tamara Miyanaga, and other dignitaries as well as members of Taber CIB. In September, some of our members travelled to Bruderheim, Alta., for the annual convention where we received a Five Bloom Award which is the highest award from Communities in Bloom that a club can achieve. Another successful year under our belts.
I would like to thank and congratulate all the members of Taber Communities in Bloom for all their hard work and accomplishments this year and look forward to continuing working with all these wonderful people in the years to come.
CIB hopes that you enjoy the beautiful trees in Confederation Park this season and all the other Christmas displays around the Town as much as we have enjoyed bringing them to you. Wishing you all the joy and blessings of this holiday season.
