Suns look to reverse early-season slumps

With the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) in full swing, several Taber Golden Suns teams are looking to reverse slow starts.

U11

No AEHL games were on the schedule for the U11s as they return this weekend with a single game. On Sunday evening, the Suns are in Medicine Hat taking on the Hounds. In the Plains Conference, the U11 Suns sit in third place with a 5-0-0 record and 10 points.

U13

Only one game was on tap this past weekend for the U13 Suns. Sunday saw the team welcome in Red Deer for an exciting game. Despite being tied in the third period, Taber would hit the back of the net to secure a 5-4 victory. Lincoln Braun scored and had a pair of assists, Holden Emelson scored twice, Jackson Wiest and Mason Emelson scored, and Levin Hanf notched an assist in the win. Dylan Volk started in net and made 24 saves on 28 shots.

This coming weekend sees one game on tap for the U13s. On Saturday, they depart for Medicine Hat for a date with the Hounds. Early in the season, the U13s are tied in last place with a 1-5-3 record and five points.

U15

It was an off weekend from the AEHL regular season for the U15 Suns. Sunday sees the team return to the ice as they also have a game in Medicine Hat against the Hounds. In the South Division, Taber is in sixth place with a 2-9 record and four points.

U18

The U18 Suns were home on Sunday to take on the Okotoks Oilers. Scoring two goals in all three periods, Taber was able to carve out a 6-4 win. Heston Hansen scored two and added an assist, Foster Weatherhead scored and had two assists, Nixen Miller hit the back of the net twice, Raiden Koizumi scored, and Madix Miller, Lincoln Weiss, Chase Stronge, and Blake Smith all had an assist. Jack Lukacs was tapped to start and made 26 saves on 30 shots.

Next weekend sees the Suns on the road for a pair of games. On Saturday, they head to Lethbridge to take on the Hounds. On Sunday, they head back to Calgary as they take on CRAA Blue. The Golden Suns currently sit in fourth place in the South Division with a 4-4-2 record and 10 points.
