The Vauxhall Spurs are back in town as they look to come out on top in the American Legion ‘A’ league. This year’s roster consists of:

On May 14, the Spurs saw the start of the regular season as they lined up against the Lethbridge Lakers for a doubleheader as their home opener. The Spurs and Lakers opened with three runs each in the first inning, but Vauxhall would blow it wide open in the third with eight runs. The offence didn’t stop there as they cruised to a 14-4 win in game one of the season. The Spurs saw 12 hits in the game, including three from Randon Lauwen. Eric Reiling had a pair of doubles, Parker McLaughlin and Landon Howg had a double and a single each, Carter Fehr also notched a double, and Langdyn Cumnmins and Roman Pavka both had a hit in the win. Tanner Bullcock was the starting pitcher and collected the win. Bullock when five innings where he allowed four runs (one earned) over five hits, two walks, and struck out six hitters. Fehr pitched the final inning and collected two strikeouts while giving up on free pass.
Looking to make it a 2-0 start to the regular season, the two teams did battle a few minutes later. While the teams traded runs back and forth all game, Vauxhall was able to hold on for a 7-5 victory. The Spurs spread out eight hits over the game as Pavka led the way with three hits, including two doubles. Howg had a pair of hits, Bullock hit a double, and McLaughlin and Mark Vulcano each had one hit. Daxton Schrader pitched four innings where he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one. Lauwen was the first man out of the bullpen and gave the Spurs two innings of shutout ball. He struck out four hitters and allowed a single hit with no runs coming in to score. Cummins pitched the final inning and gave up two runs (one earned) with two hits allowed and a pair of strikeouts.
Next action for the Spurs comes on May 28 when they hit the road for a doubleheader rematch against the Lakers. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
