Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2025 will take place nationally from May 11 to 17 and Taber, plans to give appropriate attention to the week.

“The goal of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is to raise awareness about the issues facing victims of crime and the services, assistance and laws in place to help victims and their families,” said Lyndsay Smith, Caseworker with Taber Victims Services Unit.

Smith says that throughout that week, resources and information meant to raise awareness and provide knowledge about available services, meant to assist victims and families will be available at the Taber Public Library.  In addition to that, Smith says, the Victims Services Unit will be hosting a community information session on Thursday, May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Taber Public Library, and the speakers involved with that event will providing information on Safety and Wellness, Counselling, and Family Law Options.

The Government of Canada, Smith says, provides organizations with funding to make it possible for organizations to host events during this very prominent week.

“This is an opportunity to engage with our community and provide resources and information while community building,” said Smith. “We live in a community with lots of services and supports that the public may not even be aware of.  Increasing awareness strengthens our community and it lets Victims and Survivors of Crime know they are not alone.”
