The last weekend of April saw all Taber lacrosse teams back on the floor to begin the new season. The Taber Thrashers began their season in the Southern Alberta Lacrosse Association (SALA) and the Southern Alberta Chaos are back competing in Tier II of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.
U11
The U11 Taber Thrashers kicked off their regular season with a pair of games this past weekend in Lethbridge. On Saturday morning, they lined up against Lethbridge Cudas White. It was tight after two periods, but the Thrashers were able to pull away in third en route to a 5-2 win. Dreyton Kinniburgh led the way with two goals and two assists, while Damien Ellis had a hat trick. Kade Horvath collected the win in net.
Looking for a 2-0 weekend to begin the season, the Thrashers played against Medicine Hat Sundevils White later that day. The Sundevils played extremely well throughout all periods as they beat the Thrashers 10-3. Ellis had all three goals and Horvath collected an assist.
Next Sunday, the Thrashers head to Brooks to take on Brooks Dillers White and Orange.
U13
Two games in Lethbridge came and went for the U13s as they faced off against Lethbridge Cudas Blue and Medicine Hat Sundevils Yellow. The first game of the season saw the Cudas and Thrashers tie at 4-4. Jayce Ellis scored twice and added an assist while Zachary Boulay and Kade Lebeuf had the other goals. Lincoln Braun chipped in with an assist.
The second game of the day against Medicine Hat saw the Thrashers fall back 3-0 early and they were unable to mount a comeback as they fell 4-2. Ellis and Boulay had the goals while Lebeuf, Ryden Baker, and Holden Capner drew an assist each.
The next action for the U13s comes this weekend when they head to Brooks to play Lethbridge and the Brooks Drillers on Sunday.
U15
The U15s also opened their season with a pair of games. On Saturday morning, they were in Lethbridge taking on the Cudas. Thanks to a big five-goal third period, the Thrashers were able to walk out of Lethbridge with a 7-4 win. Hayden Eldridge was unstoppable with six goals and an assist, Kash Kover had two assists, Jonah Fournier scored, and Carson Marose had an assist. Maverick Ross collected the win in net.
Sunday saw the team welcome in the Brooks Dillers. In a back-and-forth game, the Thrashers were able to hold off the Drillers in the third with a 10-8 victory. Eldridge scored a hat trick and added four assists, Kover had two goals and two assists, Fournier had four assists, Cohen Lebeuf had a hat trick, and Alexander Wall and Logan Rabusic had a goal each.
After a successful opening weekend, the U15s return to SALA action on May 24.
U17
The U17 Thrashers opened with two games this past weekend as they looked to get off to a hot start. On Saturday afternoon, they were in Lethbridge taking on the Cudas. The Thrashers kept it close all game but Lethbridge was able to score five times in the third en route to a 9-6 win. Kellon Schalk scored three of the Taber goals while Jaxson Badura, Liam Slomp, and Blaise Odland had the others. Cruz Duell and Nolan Rabusic each had an assist.
Sunday saw the team return home to take on the Medicine Hat Sundevils. Medicine Hat would score plenty of goals as they won 11-2 over the Thrashers. Odland and Duell had the Taber goals while Badura added an assist.
Next games for the U17s come on May 12 when they play the Brooks Drillers on the road.
Southern Alberta Chaos
It was a one-game weekend for the Southern Alberta Chaos as they welcomed in the Mountain View Stingers for their home opener. The Chaos scored early and often as they steamrolled the Stingers 26-4. Michael Dyck scored five and added five assists, Austin Sheen had four goals and five assists, Hunter Skrove scored three and had three assists, Devon Robichaud had four goals and an assist, and Connor Materi had a pair of goals and three assists. Parker Forrest scored twice and added two assists, Dash Robichaud, Carter Kerkhoff, and Ty Hanson had a goal and two assists, Colton Litke scored twice and added an assist, and Dagrin Bahr-Hemsing had a goal and an assist. Rounding out the scoring, Carter Foote and Grant Petronech each had two assists.
The Chaos continue the regular season next weekend when they hit the road for two games. On Saturday evening, the Chaos face off against the Sylvan Lake Yetti. Sunday afternoon sees the Chaos take on the Crude Lacrosse Club out of St. Albert.
