M.D. pass fire service bylaw

During the M.D. of Taber Council meeting on February 25, Council reviewed a Request for Decision regarding holding second and third reading of the M.D. of Taber Regional Fire Services Bylaw No. 2013.

Reeve Miyanaga stated that the proposed M.D. of Taber Regional Fire Services Bylaw No. 2013, received first reading at the February 11 Council meeting. According to the Request for Decision, Bylaw No. 2013 came about because Administration is recommended changes to the existing “MDT Fire Services Bylaw 1956” to form a new “Bylaw No. 2013 Municipal District of Taber Regional Fire Services Bylaw”. 

The request explained that the Bylaw No. 2013 includes changes that reflect administrative recommendations based on learnings from the application of the current bylaw, plus topics promoted within the fire service industry and municipal committee feedback captured from the Committee of the Whole meeting. 

Administration’s recommendation, according to the Request for Decision, was that the M.D. of Taber give second reading to the Municipal District of Taber Regional Fire Services Bylaw No. 2013, and that the M.D. of Taber give third reading to the Municipal District of Taber Regional Fire Services Bylaw No. 2013, and that the Bylaw No. 2013 become effective upon third reading of the bylaw.

Councillor Turcato made a motion that the M.D. of Taber give second reading to the Municipal District of Taber Regional Fire Services Bylaw No. 2013, and that the Bylaw No. 2013 become effective upon third reading of the bylaw. The motion was carried.

Councillor Turcato made a motion that the M.D. of Taber give third reading to the Municipal District of Taber Regional Fire Services Bylaw No. 2013, and that the Bylaw No. 2013 become effective upon third reading of the bylaw, further stating that ‘a significant amount of time has been spent on the bylaw’. The motion for third reading was ultimately carried.
