Taber Oil Kings complete the final weekend of tiering

Tiering officially finished this past weekend for Taber Oil Kings teams as the Central Alberta Hockey League prepares for the regular season.

U11 Tier 4

The U11 Oil Kings had two games this past weekend to wrap up their tiering. First up was a game against Magrath on Saturday morning at home. Magrath would jump out to an 8-1 lead in the first and never give it up as they skated to a 14-4 win. Madded Nakamura had a hat trick for Taber, Dreyton Kinniburgh had a single goal, and Nash Funk and Weston Valgardson each had an assist. Kohen Ilczynski made 22 saves on 25 shots while Boston Bassett made 11 saves on 21.

Sunday’s game against Bow Island saw a back-and-forth game as the teams traded goals back and forth. When the final buzzer rang, it was Bow Island who had claimed an 11-10 victory. Kinniburgh had two goals and an assist, Seth Denny, Reed Campbell, and Nakamura all had a pair of goals, and Valgardson and Funk scored once. Basset made 15 saves on 22 shots while Ilczynski had six saves on 10.

The U11s finished the T4 tiering round 0-7-1.

U13 Tier 3

The U13 Tier 3 Oil Kings were busy with two road games this past weekend. First up was Drumheller on Saturday which saw Taber fall 8-1. Luca Nielsen had the lone goal while Mitchell Kimoto had the assist. Dylan Volk made 45 saves on 62 shots in the Taber net.

Sunday was another tough road game against Medicine Hat and the home team took it 12-2. Dalan Blasetti had both Taber goals while Ryden Baker and Lincoln Braun noticed an assist each. Volk made 36 saves on 48 shots.

Taber finished with a 3-4-1 record in Tier 3 Blue.

U13 Tier 5

The U13 Tier 5 team finished tiering with two road games against Irvine and Crowsnest Pass. Unfortunately for Taber, they were blanked in both games — 6-0 against Irvine and 4-0 against Crowsnest Pass. In game one, Aidyn Derksen Arnel posted 40 saves on 46 shots. The second game saw the netminder make 29 saves on 33 shots.

At the end of tiering, the Tier 5 Oil Kings had a 3-4 record.

U15 Tier 3

There was only one game left for the U15 Oil Kings as they hosted Coaldale on Saturday. In a high-scoring affair, it was the visitors who were able to carve out a 9-3 win. Lincoln Wiebe had two goals and an assist, Ryder Nielsen had a single goal, and Kellon Schalk notched an assist. Brodyn Sutka made 41 saves on 50 shots in the Oil King crease.

With tiering over, the U15s compiled a 6-1 record.

U18

It was a one-game weekend for the U18 Oil Kings as they hit the road to take on Foothills Blue. It was a tight game for both teams, but Foothills was able to score three unanswered between the second and third periods en route to a 6-4 win. Jasper Sidam had a pair of goals and an assist for Taber while Konnor Wiebe had a goal and an assist, Ayden Umbach had a goal, and TJ O’Grady and Jude Tams each had an assist. Ty Dorin was the starting netminder and made 42 saves on 48 shots.

In Tier 3 Silver, the Oil Kings had a 2-4-1 record.
