On Wednesday, Oct. 23 we travelled to Lethbridge to play Winston Churchill. Our JV team had a really great match against Winston. All sets were within two points and they won the third. We have seen lots of improvement with the JV team throughout the season. Holly Linsday had seven aces in the match and Jayna Grimson had four kills.

Following the JV match the SV team took the court. It was seniors night for Winston so the gym was full and there was lots of energy in the gym which makes for a full atmosphere to play in.  The SV team had an exciting match as well playing all five sets but losing the match 2-3. We struggled in two of the sets but overall our play was strong throughout the match, Winston just made a couple better plays to take the third set in a 16-14 win. The night saw some really solid passing from both McKenzie Siemens and Kennedy Planger.

On the weekend we headed to the Royal Rumble hosted by Picture Butte High School. In our pool play we only dropped one set and ended up in first place. In the semi-final we played Taber Christian High School and won 25-13 and 25-19. In the final game we met Picture Butte, we ended up splitting with them and went into a third set against them. We had a bad start to the third set and we weren’t able to recover and lost the third set to take second in the tournament.  Even though we lost in the final it was a great tournament for our team. They worked well as a team throughout the tournament and went undefeated until the final. Besides working well as a team we saw strong serving and defence.

This week we head to Prairie Winds Secondary to play them in the first game of our league finals. On the weekend we will play in the Monster Smash Tournament in Vulcan.

SV Storm Boys

Our SV Storm boys junior high team won second place at their County of Lethbridge League Championship this past weekend. The silver medal win earned them a spot in the ASAA 2J Zone tournament happening next weekend in Barnwell. The boys had a great tournament at League Championships, they placed first in their pool play, beat St. Catherine’s in the semi finals and lost to St. Joe’s in the final.
