Posted on July 24, 2014 by Taber Times

The tender for work on the M.D. of Taber Park irrigation intake closed on June 26, and M.D. council accepted the lowest bid from Cactus Contractors of Lethbridge.

The bid of $120,300 was 2.6 per cent over the engineering estimate with the only other bid coming in being significantly higher from Ossa Terra Ltd. at $221,328.

Engineering costs and a 10 per cent contingency are additional to the contractor quote which brought the total project cost to an expected $140,762.50.

“The funding was approved last year ad what we’ve been waiting for is the approval to enter into the bench shore of the river. In order ot complete that work it has to be undertaken in late fall,” said Derrick Krizsan, municipal administrator for the M.D. of Taber after M.D. council’s meeting on July 8. “The contractor will be getting that work done to build a structure that will enable our park irrigation to operate. The course of the river has been changed over the last 10 years due to flooding and other factors.”

The DRP funding for the project was increased from $30,000 to $150,000 due to required environmental considerations resulting in a significantly expanded scope of work.
