St. Mary’s and W.R. Myers slo pitch baseball got underway last week under the guidance of coach Mark Planger. The two schools have once again assembled a combined team of students from Grades 9 to 12. League play began April 23 with a double-header against the Brooks Buffalos. In game one, the Auroras scored a 20-9 win. Kennedy Planger pitched the whole game and also hit a grand slam on her first hit of the season. Georgia Bael pitched game two, a 13-2 win for the girls.
It was a good start to the season for the team, which had good hitting throughout the lineup. Standouts of the night were the home run hit by Planger and a triple and double by Jewel Muller. Coach Planger was happy with the first outing of the year, and while they had some strong play in the field, it will be an area of work for them as the season progresses. They hit the road this week to take on Milk River.
