U13 and U15 Oil Kings wrap up CAHL season

The last two teams competing in Central Alberta Hockey League playoffs saw their seasons come to an end this past weekend as the U13s and U15s played their final games until fall.

U13

The U13 Oil Kings had a single game this past weekend in round-robin playoffs as they took on Picture Butte at home. Thanks to a seven-goal first period, the visitors were able to secure an 11-5 win. Logan Rabusic had a goal and an assist for Taber while Dalan Blasetti and Baron Sting each had two assists, Theoren Bolig, Mitchell Kimoto, Jaxson Tychsen, and Wyatt Valgardson all had a single goal, and Kash Kover chipped in with an assist. Aidyn Derksen Arnel was the starter in net and the goalie made 27 saves on 38 shots.

Cochrane finished first in the standings with a 4-0 record, Picture Butte was second place with two wins and two losses, and the Oil Kings finished in third with a 0-4 record.

U15

Going for the U15 Tier 3 Banner, the U15 Oil Kings had a two-game total final this past weekend where they faced off against the Coaldale Cobras.

Heading to Coaldale on Friday night, the Oil Kings were all business as they were able to skate to a 6-2 victory. Lincoln Wiebe led the way for Taber with a goal and four assists, Jenner Workman had a hat trick, Julian Woordman had three assists, Nolan Rabusic had a goal and an assist, Nate Kramer had a single goal, and Skylar Jensen and Kellon Schalk each had an assist. Jack Lukacs was solid in between the pipes with a 34-save performance.

With a four-goal lead heading into Saturday, the Oil Kings were looking to end the season on a high at home. It was a tough-fought battle, and when the final buzzer rang, the teams had tied 3-3 which meant Taber was the Tier 3 champions. Wiebe was stellar once again as the Oil King put up a hat trick while Workman and Adelyn Williamson each contributed with an assist. Lukacs was back in net, this time making 24 saves on 27 shots.
